It was great to see Cameron ripping up the Lightning Trail in fine form. I met Cameron last year at our Riverina Endurance Trail Running Series. Cam worked hard and took 2nd place overall in the series.
Cameron's success in the series has flowed on and as you'll read below its pretty clear that he has a good head on his shoulders and is getting results because he runs with heart.
Good luck in Bendigo Cam.
1. What are you currently training for - Next big goal?
I'm just starting to wind down my training for the inaugural O'Keefe Marathon in Bendigo on May 1st. It's my second marathon and I'm aiming/hoping to finish in under three hours.
2. Biggest / most favourite sporting achievement so far ?
Winning the Marysville Marathon last year is definitely my biggest highlight so far. It was my first attempt at the marathon distance and I went into it just hoping to finish in one piece.
3. What does a regular week of training look like for you?
The last few months I've been trying to run 6 days a week, consisting of a tempo run on Tuesday, alternating longish steep hill intervals (500m) or 800s week about on Thursdays, a marathon pace run on Saturday, and a nice slow long run on Sundays with easy runs Mon & Wed.
4. A quick tip/quote for our runners that helps you keeping progressing
Run for enjoyment. If you love running then it makes training easier. If you start to dread going for a run then maybe alter your training to make it more enjoyable. You don't have to 'love' every session, but you should enjoy running more often than not.
5. Favourite session
Love a good long run. Just forgetting about everything for a couple of hours and enjoying the simplicity of running!
