Riverina Endurance Trail Running Series
Race 1 Huon Hill kicks off on May 29 as the Trail Series Opener.
With the start date moved earlier this year and other recent initiatives to build the Trail Running Community we are annicipating a great flock of runners to spread their wings across this awesome course.
Being only 4 weeks after Nail Can its likely that many NCH participants will be enticed to use their confidence and fitness gained from from the 11.3km. New faces our encouraged to be apart of any single event or the complete series this year.
If you conquered Nail Can Hillthen the 13.8 Huon Hill is in the bag. The scenery alone is a brilliant distraction. The vantage point is amazing, giving you a 360 scope of Albury Wodonga. The view highlight is a panorama of Lake Hume nested beneath its hill scape and if you know where to look you can catch the peaks of the Alpine region.
The series has had a great build up this year with the Riverina Trails Community Project inviting more people to the trails - 2 XC races(short course | Cross County racing ) and also for the first time we launched the Riverina Lightning Trail along the Keiwa River.
“We’ve seen a really strong resonse from the community after last years inaugural series. It seems to be something that people really want more of. Theres a lot of other groups and individuals working hard for it also, Albury had its own screening of a Trail Running Film Festival.
Our Major Sponsors and Partners from 2015 are right behind the series again - Excited for the notion to grow the Trail Running scene to grow in Albury Wodonga. Thanks to their support we are able to offer great Series Podium Prize Value - In Cash
'Albury Wodonga actually boasts 7 mountain/ trail areas that are some of the best trails in the country - a stones throw from the door step. The series only showcases 3 of these but I can see people getting more confident in exploring our other areas too. It’s a natural experience and gives us that sense of adventure. Good training too! ‘
The pointy end of the field will boast a few hot battles. Last years Series Champion Aaron Knight is a confirmed starter for Huon. This year Aaron runs Race 1 only as he embarks on some Verticle Km races in Europe.
Last years runner up John Winsbury from Canberra will hope to set out on fresher legs than last year. If local champion Luke Preston arrives at Huon then it could be ferocious at the front.. Luke is rebuilding very nicely after his domination of the Buffalo 26er.
In the female race we expect to see 2015 Series Champion Kim Van Kalken build throughout the series but she will be fresh and ready for pain at Race 1. Wagga Trail Runner Roylene Stanley will be pressing for a course record. Roylene only featured at Race 2 last year – blasting the field, but this year she has eyes on the Series. Roylene is primed after recovering from the Buffalo 75km ultra. 13.8km will be a slice of cake for her.
With potential record fields and records broken it will again be a carnival atmosphere on top of the Huon Hill Summit May 29.
